IT'S APPLE & GRAPE TIME!! The main weekend of the festival being this weekend!

FRIDAY 4TH MARCH -

Plenty of stuff happening to get us started for the main day, which is Saturday. The Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery has local artworks on display from 10am til 4pm. Some local businesses have pulled out all the stops and decorated their windows in celebration of the 50th Anniversary. There are open gardens located all around the distric that are on display until Sunday the 6th. Tickets are $25pp and can be purchased online (www.appleandgrape.org) or at the Festival Office in the mian street. Today is also the for the Montague Fresh Gala Ball - When in Rome...! Unfortunately this event is completely sold out now but those who are going are in for a treat. The Young Ambassadors will be presented at the ball and all of their hard work will be put on display.

SATURDAY 5TH OF MARCH -

There is so much happening today it's hard to know where to begin. From 8am to 5pm the Market in the Mountians will be running in the Stanthorpe Civic Centre. The Heritage Bank Multicutral Carnival and Wine fiesta will be held in Weeroona Park opposite the Civic Centre. Please note that entry into the park will be $5 for over 18's and you will recieve a wrist band that allows you in and out as you desire.

The Rebel/The Breeze street carnival basically covers everything that will be located in the CBD of Stanthorpe for the entire day starting at 9am. This includes street stalls, walking entertaniment, performers, entertainment for the kiddies and band parades. There will be sound stages with performances located at O’Maras and Heritage Bank. There will also be food choices galore and then there will be a fireworks display.

The Band Parades from the Stanthorpe RSL will commence at 10:45am and finish around 12:30. They will prelude the Channel 7 Grand Parade that will start at 2pm, finishing at 3:30pm. The parades will travel right down the main street of Stanthorpe so it'll be hard to miss them!

The Stanthorpe Border Post Queensland Grape Crushing Championships will take place after the Grand Parade at 4pm. Giving the young ambassadors time to get changed and ready to get messy!

To end the day, there is an awesome fireworks display that will happen at 7:30pm! So make sure you are near Canarvon Bridge around that time to see it!

The Spanos IGA Stanthorpe Rodeo will be running for half of the day, starting at 12pm and finishing up around 11:30pm so be prepared for a big night if you plan to stick around!

Now if you don't feel like going to the rodeo but you want to keep partying, there are pubs and wine bars in town to keep the mood going! The Top Pub, The Central, O'Maras, the Country Club and the Commerical Hotel will all be opertating over the weekend!

SUNDAY 13 MARCH 9AM - 3PM PATTY'S ON MACGREGOR FERMENTING WORKSHOP - Participants will need to bring outdoor protection for picking grapes as well as a pair of scissors or snips. Bring a 10 or 20 litre bucket with a lid (or plastic and something to tie it on tight). Advisable to bring a large bin liner if putting bucket in car. Tasting of: just finished white wine, just finished red wine and also an example of an oxidised wine Another great value for money workshop!!

The Queensland College of Wine Tourism (QCWT) is holding a 'Winemaker for a Weekend' event. It is a unique weekend of hands-on experinces such as picking grapes, pressing, crushing, masterclasses and fine dining. It'll be $320 of the weekend with Wine and Meals included. Got to be quick though! RSVP is by the 11th of March!

Granite Belt Bicycle Tours is hosting a breakfast ride this Easter, the Dam & Easter Eggs Bike Ride. Leaving Stanthorpe at 8am, they cycle out and around Storm King Dam before heading back to Omaras Hotel for a lovely cooked breakfast. THURSDAY 31st MARCH -  Base yourself in Stanthorpe to take full advantage of the start of our Autumn season and this great festival of poetry. Oracles of the Bush is an annual event celebrating Australian bush poetry, music and art. This event boasts among the highest prize money for any bush poetry competition in the country. It includes a variety of events such as a Children's Concert, Poets' Concert featuring professional poets, poetry competition heats and final, Patti's Bling dance, breakfasts, lunches and the Poets' Brawl breakfast in Jubilee Park. As well as its signature events, a number of other community events such as a craft show, markets and the Centenary Cottage Museum display are held in conjunction with this four day celebration. Oracles is held at the start of autumn when Tenterfield's leaves are beginning to turn gold. It's a great place to be at the start of a wonderful season.

SUNDAY 10 APRIL Meet the Maker Kalei Apple Tour from the Queensland College of Wine Tourism (QCWT) to visit the DAF Applethorpe Research Station to hear how the Kalei Apple variety was created. Next we experience agritourism at Suttons Farm including their famous apple pie.
After morning tea a visit to Rizzato’s Moonlight Orchard, a fully operational apple packing shed and then onto Stanthorpe Cheese to meet the makers. Back at QCWT Chef Andrew Simpson will demonstrate cooking with the kalei apples followed by our signature lunch dish the Medley of Mains matched with wines in Varias Restaurant.

SUNDAY 1 MAY Opera In the Vineyard is a charity event held on the first weekend in May each year in the spectacular vineyards of Ballandean Estate Wines. The event is one of South East Queensland's premier cultural events, and the jewel of the Granite Belt's social calendar. Opera in the Vineyard attracts up to 1800 people each year providing an intoxicating mix of music, wine, food and an unforgettable time. The event organisers Ballandean Estate Wines and the Rotary Club of Stanthorpe have donated almost a million dollars to charity since the events inception.  Opera Queensland have joined the Opera in the Vineyard team and we are delighted to have them on board. Canticum presents choral  music from the Renaissance through to the present day. Take an air-conditioned coach from the Queensland College of Wine Tourism on the Granite Belt to visit Greg Patterson at Boss Meats. Greg will provide a 11⁄2 hour demonstration on the art of processing cured meats. Travel back to the college for a cooking demonstration in the kitchen with foundation chef, Andrew Simpson and then in to Varias Restaurant for our signature dish, the Medley of Mains, which includes matched local wines.

A practical workshop on vineyard pruning for wine grape production. The morning session will focus on the basics of spur pruning for vine balance, and vine health. It will also cover bud dissection to view vineyard fruitfulness so that we make informed decisions when choosing the appropriate pruning style. The advanced pruning session will cover: Pruning to combat trunk disease; Cane pruning – principles and practices Rod and Spur to increase fruit levels. Budwood collection for summer propagation. Lunch is included for full day participants and can be ordered separately for others.

FRIDAY 1 JULY - SUNDAY 3 JULY Snowflakes in Stanthorpe is a snow-based winter festival designed to give the visitor a snow-based experience and access to other winter themed activities over a three day period in July. Featuring Ice skating rink, snow play area, snowman making competition, enchanted forest, animal nursery, winter markets, face painting, jumping castle, movies for the kids, winter themed photo competition, granite belt wineries, fashion parade, fireworks and more.

Spend a cosy winters day at our studio immersed in the colourful world of felting. Under the guide of textile artist Gail Grunske, learn the art of nuno felting; a modern take on the ancient art of wet felting. Using a base fabric of your choice (cotton/silk/polyester), explore your creativity with colour and design.

This is a fully catered event. All materials for the workshop are provided and the price includes your own scarf plus gourmet laden morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, made with fresh Granite Belt local produce. Wrap up the day with a glass of homemade mulled wine, while you sit back and admire, or better yet, wear your new addition to your winter wardrobe.
